The flag of Bahrain was initially adopted
in 1933, but wasn’t officially confirmed until August of
1972. The original design consisted of a red flag with a
white vertical stripe on the hoist side. The serrated line
was added in 1933 to differentiate this flag from others.
On the first version the line formed eight triangles, but
this was later reduced to five, and these five triangles are
considered symbolic of the five pillars of Islam.
