The Barbados flag's design was chosen as a result of a contest. The gold color represents the
island's beaches. The blue on each side represent the ocean and sky which surround the island. Neptune's
trident stands for the peoples link with the sea. The three points on the trident stand for the three
principles of Democracy; from the people, for the people and by the people.
