The current flag of Burkina Faso was
officially adopted in August of 1984. This flag consists of two
equal red and green horizontal bands, and features a yellow five
pointed star in the center. Besides being the traditional
pan-African colors, red specifically represents the blood shed
in the revolution yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and is overall
a symbol of the sacrifice of the people of the nation. Green is
a symbol of hope, abundance and agricultural wealth. The star
itself is a symbol of democratic revolution.
