The current flag of Costa Rica was officially
adopted in 1964, however this five stripe design dates back to
1848. This flag features the revolutionary blue, white and red,
colors of France, arranged in a horizontal five stripe pattern.
Featured in the middle, red stripe of the flag is the county’s coat
of arms. This emblem features an ocean with two ships, separated by
a green mountain range. This represents the two different oceans,
the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, that border Costa Rica and the
three major mountain ranges found in the country. The design also
includes seven white five pointed stars that represent the seven
different provinces of the nation. |
