The flag of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was
officially adopted on February 20, 2006. The design consists of a blue flag
with a red diagonal stripe, with yellow fimbriation, running from the bottom
corner of the hoist side to the top corner of the fly end, and a yellow five
pointed star in the top left corner. Besides a shift from royal to sky
blue, the current flag is very similar to the flag that was recognized from
1963-1971. The ideas the colors represent have also evolved into different
meanings since the use of the previous flag. Blue symbolizes peace, the red
in the stripe represents blood shed by the county’s martyrs, and yellow
stands for the country’s wealth. The star represents ‘a radiant future for
the country.’
