The flag of Dominica has a green background for the lush vegetation of the island. The tri-colored
cross stands for Christianity. The three colors represent the Trinity. Yellow is for the Sun, the
fruit of the island and the indigenous Carib indians. The black represents the soil and the African
origin of the majority of the inhabitants. White stands for the clear waters on its beaches, its rivers
and waterfalls. The bird is a Sisserou parrot found no where else in the world. The ten stars represent
the ten parishes on the island. The red disc represents socialism.
