This Irish flag dates back to the middle 1800's. It was born in
the struggles for freedom from the British and is similar to the
French flag as a tribute to the French revolution. The green stands
for the " Emerald Isle " and the Catholic majority. The orange
represents Protestants and was taken from the colors of the House
of Orange-Nassau. The white represents the desire for peace between
the religious groups. The white is sometimes attributed to the
Presbyterians.
