The flag of Cote d’Ivoire, adopted December 3, 1959, is a
vertical tri-band flag, very similar to both the flag of Ireland, as well as the
flag of Italy. The color of the band at the hoist side is Orange, said to stand
for the land and its savannahs. It has also been further interpreted to
symbolize ‘the blood of a young people fighting for emancipation.’ The white
band represents peace, or unity. Green is a symbol of hope, as well as the
green of the woods found in the south of the land.
