The History of the First Navy Jack Flag: The First Navy Jack Flag is believed to have flown aboard the Continental Fleet’s flagship, Alfred in January, 1776. Commodore Esek Hopkins raised this flag to signal his fleet to attack the enemy. After 9-11-02 this flag is required to be flown aboard all active duty Navy ships.
